By July, the beds were all fitted with felt padding and liners.  We began to implement our planting design which combines 3/4” stainless steel flat bar with 16” X 16” HDPE grow containers.  These are filled with cleaned black cinders which will serve as media for the roots to grow into and which may slightly assist with oxygenation of the water.  Certainly the cinders will help with oxygenation in the flushing bio-filter beds which should be constructed by July 10 or so.  The starts (Bok Choi in the photos) had already grown roots through the net pots.  We tried a number of techniques of transplanting, including leaving the plants in the net pots and bare rooting the starts.
