We live in an off-grid location, so designing a system to work on as little power as possible was one of our primary considerations. Working with this parameter, we found an adjustable rate pump which can optimize its efficiency within a range of rates. This allowed us to design our water flow path, PVC sizing, and Australian-styled flush beds with room to fine-tune once installed. We chose media-filled ebb-and-flow biofilters, and have discovered that Glenn Martinez of Olomana Gardens was on to something about using black cinders for their oxygenation potential.
Every 6 weeks we teach a one-day intensive which spends 2 1/2 hours on our aquaponics system, and 2 1/2 hours on Korean Natural Farming. Now in our soil and in our aquaponics garden, we are spraying supplemental nutrition derived through the fermentation of eggshell, bone, fish scraps, oriental herbs, plant juices, and other farm-sourced materials. The next workshop is on August 22. Here are photos and testimonials from past workshops.
The event is from 10:30 am - 4 pm, and includes a 35 page booklet full of all kinds of information about our system, including where to purchase parts, and a useful summary of Natural Farming plant qualities and input dilutions for various applications. Please RSVP.
